MEDICINE BUDDHA SUTRA
Nama Guro Muni Indraya!
The river of merely hearing your names
Makes even the hell-fires of Avici as cool as a lotus pond.
Protectors in these degenerate times, the Seven Sugatas
And the head of the Shakyas, to your feet I bow.
I am distracted by activities of little importance.
To benefit myself and those with faith in the life stories
Of the Seven Buddhas for degenerate times,
I will condense this ambrosia sutra to its molten essence:
To the Bhagavan, Tathagata, Arhat, the fully enlightened
Buddha, Renowned Glorious King of Excellent Signs,
I prostrate, make offerings, and go for refuge.
Blue in color, with hands in the supreme-granting mudra,
You who accomplished the twelve prayers,
Majestic with the glory of the two accumulations;
Glorious One of the Buddha-field called Lapis Light:
I prostrate to Medicine Guru, King of Healers.
Bhagavan with equal compassion for all,
Whose name, when merely heard,
Dispels the suffering of the lower realms,
Dispeller of disease and of the three poisons:
I prostrate to Lapis-Light Medicine Buddha.
I make countless offerings, arranged and emanated
Through the force of mantra, samadhi, and aspiration.
I confess all downfalls and negativities. I rejoice in virtues.
I dedicate all virtues to the great enlightenment.
Through the blessings of the truth of the holy jewel of Dharma
May I and all others, henceforth in all our lives,
Practice the Buddha’s teachings in their entirety
Exactly as the Buddhas intended.
The conquerors’ heart commitments were invoked
By thirty-six thousand sons of the Sugatas,
Including Manjushri, Kyab Dröl, and Vajrapani.
Thus requested, they proclaimed this sutra’s benefits.
Pray, manifest all of them for me here and now.
Manifest the worldly protector yaksha leaders as well.
As you promised to do before to previous holy ones.
Stop our enemies, harm-doers, and epidemics.
Pacify all conflict. Increase physical and mental bliss.
Increase wealth, power, property, crops, and life span.
Accomplish these desired goals as we wish.
Protect us always without interruption.
